Gas

Gas
  1. It is very important that you do not switch on any electrical items after a gas smell is noticed.
  2. Open as many doors and windows as possible to let in fresh air.
  3. Try to locate the gas meter and switch off the supply. There is normally a switch on/off handle located next to the gas meter.
  4. Dial 0800 111 999 , which is the National Grid authority emergency number in the UK and give them your location and contact details. The National Grid website can be found here.
  5. Only after doing all of the above, and after ensuring that you and the property are safe, report the issue to us via the Guest Help Form.

There are 3 basic reasons why this could be happening:

  • A water leak in the heating pipework system in your home
  • Not using your heating for a long time, e.g. over the summer months, and then you are turning on your heating for the first time after that period
  • Because you have just recently bled your radiators

Follow this online guide, there are some easy checks you can perform to resolve the issue. If you still need further assistance, raise the issue through our Guest Help Form.

Any gas appliance you bring into property will not be the responsibility of the Owner to maintain. It would be sensible for you instruct a Gas Safe engineer to undertake safety checks to ensure it is safe to use. You can find a relevant qualified engineer here.

This document, also called a Gas Safety Certificate, applies only to properties with a gas supply. It will be provided to you at the start of your tenancy and must be kept safe for legal reasons. The certificate will be renewed annually, after a gas safety inspection.

An annual inspection required to produce a Gas Safety Record, and which covers all gas-powered appliances, for all properties that have a gas supply. The Owner must pay for and arrange this inspection with a qualified gas engineer, and you must allow access to the property. We will put you in touch with the engineer at the appropriate time and give you enough advance notice of the engineer´s visit.

We aim to have an engineer attend within 24-48 hours of any fault report, depending on the seriousness of the issue. Depending on the type of fault, a part may need to be ordered, which may mean a full repair cannot be undertaken on the first visit. We will always try our best to undertake works in a timely fashion. We aim to have all gas faults repaired within 7 working days of the initial fault being reported to ourselves.
